Chickadee Rescue and Other Bird News

My little chickadee!!  The chickadee ran into the window--with
a loud ka-thunk!  I went to the deck to see if it still was alive;
it hit the window hard.  It was laying on its side; one foot barely
moved.  Eyes were closed and mouth was open.  I picked it up
very carefully and took it inside.  My most astute cat, Daisy, never
even noticed!  I just held the bird in my hands to warm it up, and
eventually its eyes opened,  A few minutes later, its beak closed.
Then it grasped it feet around my fingers.  Next it tried to flutter.
At that point I took it back outside and slowly released it.  It
didn't even leave--it just flew up to the feeder.

As of today we have 2 pair of robins here.  Little early for them,
don't you think?

As of yesterday, 2 pair of bluebirds showed up--and stayed.
My most special valentine present was 2 cedar bluebird
houses, the kind that are easy to open and clean.  I hope
to get it up tomorrow!

Also, the pileated woodpecker came to visist nervously
at the feeder.  They're not normally "feeder" type birds.
They are 19 inches long and with a goodly wingspan--and
what a noise it made landing on the side of the feeder, and
it stayed there eating for 20 minutes.  Poor thing must
have been really hungry.

All for now.
